Seoul Part 1 Gyeonbokgung Palace

The palace is situated between 2 Mountains mount Bugakan to the rear and mount Namsan in the foreground.The Palace itself was built in 1395 by king Taejo and makes up one of the five castles. The palace name is loosely translated as " The Palace greatly blessed by Heaven". Much of the palace began to be restored after the palace was burned down in 1592 during the Japanese Invasions. The palace was finally opened to the public in 1954.

The Palace makes a cost-effective trip for all the family. Below are some of the buildings you will see but I have not listed them all, It's definitely a place I will return to when I go back to Korea next year.

Geunjeongmun Gate

This Gate was built in 1865 during the reign of King Gojong.The Gate was used by the Crown Prince and his officials. The Gate literally Translates as " Spring Beings".

Geunjeong Hall
 Geunjeong Hall is the throne hall, where the King granted audiences to his officials and met Foreign envoys.

Gwanghwahun Gate
 Gwanghwahun Gate is the main Gate of the Palace , As you can see from the Picture there are three entrances the king would enter through the centre and everyone else would use the other two entrances.

Gyeonghoreu Pavilion
 This is where the feasts took place between the king and foreign Envoys. The name Translates as " The King is capable of handling affairs only when he has the right people around him"
Hyangwonjeong Pavilion / Chiwyanggoyo Bridge/ Hywangwonji pond
Hyangwonjeong Pavilion or Pavilion of Far reaching Fragrance was built in 1873 by King Gojong
