Seoul Part 2 , Deoksugung Palace

Deoksugung Palace was originally built by Wolsandegun in the 1450s. Wolsandegun was the brother of king Seongjong.  The palace did not become a royal palace until after the Imjin wars in 1592. The Imjin wars led to all the Royal palaces to be burnt down by the Japanese invading forces. Thus King Seonjo decided to take up residence in  Deoksugung Palace.

The Palace is convenient as its close to all hotels near city hall and, it's very cheap to enter under 1 pound or about 1 Dollar US. Also there is a great Vietnamese Restaurant and Pizza place right next to the palace.

Deokhonjeon Hall

 Doekhonjeon wall is where King Gojong met Foreign Envoys. The hall is one of newest structures at the palace as it was built in 1911

Daehanmun Gate ( Main Entrance)

Gwanjmyeongmun Gate
 This was once the southern gate, you can also see a  Water clock a Brown bell which dates to 1462 and a rocket canon.
Jeonggwanheon Pavilion
 The Jeonggwanheon Pavilion was built in 1900and designed by A.I Sabatin, A Russian Architect. The design fuses Korean and western designs. The hall was use used for banquets.
