Penang Part 5: George Town

George Town is the capital of  Penang. George town was founded in 1786 by Captain Francis Light who was a trader in the British East India Company. The City was named after King George III. The modern George town was an assault on the senses. Everywhere you go Food is being prepared and people are queuing for food, Motorcycles whizzing past and cars honking their horns. When you walk around George Town you have to have your wits about you as simple tasks like crossing roads can be herculean tasks. George town is a buzzing city and the stereotypical south-east Asian city. If you can get past these minor drawbacks then you are in a mecca for great food and culture. Please visit.
